Toronto, ON
Spring is here at last. Thank the goddess. It’s been a long winter for me that started in early November with my Yukon Arctic touring adventure. There was snow crunching beneath my Sweetlandish boots from that moment on, until like a good girl I ran away to Mexico.
I’ve been home for a week but my mind is still somewhere on Playa La Ropa sipping from a coconut. I was also privileged and delighted to perform at the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival. From the moment I arrived in Zihua I had overwhelming amounts of fun, if possibly a tad too much mezcal. The calibre and talent of the festival performers blew me away, none of whom I had actually met, or even heard of before the trip. I particularly enjoyed hanging and playing with Axemunkee and Mary Zoo a Boston/Paris based duo. During our time together we became aware that what happens in Mexico only sometimes stays in Mexico… So here’s hoping that collaboration will happen again sometime down the road!
Other highlights included: visiting the long-fabled and recently discovered ancient city of Xihuacan, driving with Carlos in his crazy pimped-out VW bug, meeting a very large crocodile and eating my own weight in fish tacos. Thanks so much to Catherine Krantz and everyone at ZIGF for having me. I’m already plotting my comeback for next year… (I’ll try to be sightly better behaved.)
And now that I’m home again I guess it’s back to business. For those of you in the Toronto area who haven’t had a chance to visit the Adventures In Sweetland exhibition at the Fleishman Gallery you still have one more week! You might even want to join us on Saturday, April 4th from 5-8pm for a small gallery closing party. Pick up your copy of the Adventures In Sweetland book in person and enjoy some wine and fromage. If you can’t make it to the party but would still like to buy the book you can order one here.
For all the latest photos from trip (and my eternal Adventures In Sweetland…) visit the gallery page. There’s also some pretty sweet Mexico shots to be found on my Instagram.
In other news, stay tuned for a link to a brand new article I wrote for my dear friend Aurora Jane‘s amazing website mojojunction.com.
Hasta la vista!
