AIS – Photography
Kristin Sweetland began her “Adventures In Sweetland” photographic series decades ago while a student at the University of Victoria. The first assignment she received in her photography class was self-portraiture —a method she uses to express herself to this day. Since then, the series has followed her across continents, from the jungles of Mexico to the Arctic tundras. Her manipulated, digitized self-portraits invite viewers to experience fairytale landscapes in a world that seems to be very much all her own.
In the early days, Sweetland landed her first photography exhibition at her favourite local Victoria café, Moka House. Since then she has exhibited her work in numerous Canadian galleries (in both solo and group shows) as well as Toronto’s esteemed Scotiabank Contact Festival. In 2015 she self-published her first book of photography simply titled “Adventures In Sweetland.” She is currently working on an expanded and updated edition of the book scheduled for publication in late 2025.
