Toronto, ON
Bonjour from breezy downtown Toronto on this gorgeous late-summer day. It’s been a fine season of leisure, pleasure and passionate weather around here… I’ve been doing my best to rest and replenish after a relentlessly busy past year. I’m feeling great about the creative work I’ve put out into the world and really look forward to sharing more with you all soon. In the meantime, I’ve been trying to strike the perfect balance between social fun and lying around on the couch watching TV —which we all know I am never sorry to do.
As I’m equally one part country mouse and one part town mouse these days, I’ve been splitting my time between the big city and the new family seat in Centre Wellington. My mom and I planted a truly impressive flower and herb garden this year, which exploded bountifully thanks to all the rain. Pesto anyone? I also got to grow my own proper strawberries for the first time ever, which delighted me beyond words.
In social fun, I got to attend a good number of summer festivals this year, which I haven’t really done much of since Covid. Made it to Hillside Festival in Guelph for a day to visit friends who were playing. It was insanely hot and crowded but the crowd was stoked and having a blast. Left early enough enough to zip back up to the Elora Festival closing gala, which absolutely musically blew my mind. There I had a front row seat to literally the best piano performance I have ever seen thanks to Anagnoson and Kinton, plus of course, the always-stunning Elora Singers who give me the major feels every single time.
This past weekend I had tickets to the King’s Plate, which I purchased as soon they came on sale (and immediately began fantasizing about what I was going to wear.) The winning outfit was consistent with my summer 2024 style of blousy tops and mini shorts, elevated with glittering jewels. I opted for lace-up boots v.s. heels as the weather was looking dodgy and I didn’t know what to expect. Then, driving out to the racetrack, the dramatic clouds rolled in dumping a deluge of biblical proportions upon us. Nearby Pearson airport received a record of 128.3 millimetres of rain in a matter of hours reducing driving visibility to zero and flooding the highways as per yuge. Luckily my friend and I made it there safe, placed our bets, found some fancy cocktails and the best view of the track just to hear the announcement that all races for the remainder of the day would be cancelled… OMG. I still managed to have an amazing time, though. It’s so exciting seeing people all glammed up and rocking their own personal styles. Can’t wait for next year.
And of course, I’ve been making a lot a time for quiet and nature adventures too. Check out the latest additions to my new Adventures In Sweetland photo-series “Illuminated” here and keep up with me on Instagram. Also, stay tuned for news of my upcoming fun new video project and some exciting music release info coming this fall.
Till then, lots of love,
xo
